QUETTA, Dec 12: Work on the second phase of the Gwadar deep-water port was launched after completion of the first phase of the mega project and the federal government is planning to start 11 more major projects in the province.

This was stated here at a meeting, presided over by provincial Chief Secretary K.B. Rind. All provincial secretaries and additional chief secretary of planing and development attended the meeting.

Officials concerned also apprised the meeting about the progress of work on Mirani and Subakzai dams, Kacchi canal and other mega projects, saying these projects would be completed on time.

The chief secretary directed the authorities concerned to accelerate the pace of work on development projects, saying that their completion would make a positive impact on the overall economy of the province.

He asked the director-general of the Gwadar Development Authority to provide jobs to 115 Baloch who have completed the required technical training in Islamabad and Karachi. He said that more educated local youths should be sent for technical training, enabling them to get jobs in different mega projects.

Mr Rind also urged officials concerned to complete the Presidential National Programme and Greater Quetta Water Supply project as soon as possible to resolve the problem of drinking water in the provincial capital.—Staff Correspondent
