ISLAMABAD: Children should work on their dreams, not in the fields. Child labour is a social evil that prevents a society from progressing and everyone must condemn it.

This was said by Senate Chairman Mohammad Sadiq Sanjrani on the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour on Sunday.

“Let us resolve to exterminate the social evil and create a safe, happy and supportive environment for children,” Mr Sanjrani said, adding that child labour perpetuated poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, population growth and other social problems.

“Children are the future of Pakistan and the parliament has taken all possible steps to enact legislation aimed at eradicating child labour. Paying attention towards education and training of children should be the responsibility of every member of society. The more that attention is paid towards the well-being of children, the brighter the prospects for the development of nations,” he said, adding that Pakistan stood by its international obligations to prevent child labour.

People from all walks of life needed to work together to end forced labour of innocent children, he added.
