CHARSADDA: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said here on Friday that the nation was bearing the brunt of wrong economic policies of the previous Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government. He said that instead of indulging in politics of agitation Imran Khan should play his role as leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.

He was speaking at a press conference in Turangzai area of Charsadda district where PTI local leader Alamzeb Kakar announced joining the QWP along with his supporters.

Mr Sherpao said that Imran Khan staged a failed long march and was now looking towards the Supreme Court and the ‘neutrals’ to help him out.

“On the one hand, he (Imran) is seeking help from the ‘neutrals’, on the other his party has launched a social media campaign against them,” the QWP chairman said.

Blames PTI govt for economic crisis

He said the coalition government should avoid burdening the poor anymore as they were already facing record inflation in the wake of recent increase in fuel prices and electricity tariff.

Criticising the provincial government, he said it failed to secure the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the KP produced surplus gas and electricity, but its residents had been facing outages for long hours.

The QWP leader slammed Chief Minister Mahmood Khan for skipping the recent meeting of the National Economic Council, saying being the chief executive of KP he should have attended it to plead the case of the province.

He said the province received a lower amount of funds from the centre for merged districts, adding the provincial government did not play its due role to protect the interests of KP.

He alleged that the previous PTI government ruined the economy as well as the agriculture sector by increasing the prices of fertilizers, seeds and pesticides. He said the country was compelled to import wheat and sugar owing to bad policies of the previous government.

Mr Sherpao also condemned the derogatory remarks made by the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party about Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and called for boycott of Indian products.
