LARKANA: The 25th death anniversary of leading political thinker and prolific writer Dr Muhabat Buriro was observed at a well-attended gathering of his admirers at the Larakana Arts Council the other day. The writer’s posthumously published book Cheen mathan gaarrho jhando — the Sindhi translation of Edgar Show’s book Red Star over China — was launched at the progamme, held under the aegis of Dr Muhabat Buriro Academy, Qambar.

The event was presided over by prominent writer and broadcaster Mukhtiar Malik, who told the audience that Dr Mahabat was a devoted and enlightened political and social activist. He was against all kinds of bigotry and wanted Sindhi people to adopt a scientific approach towards sustainable development in Sindh. “He was a linguist as well who had written a book on the origin of Sindhi language titled Boli jo bun aen buniyad. He has written many books on various topics which are published on his anniversary every year. His contribution to enrichment of Sindhi language is highly valued,” said Mr Malik.

Dr Bashir Ahmed Shaad said that Dr Buriro was progressive-minded writer who used his wisdom and pen for the betterment of humanity. “He lived for just 45 years but has done a huge work which outnumbered his years of life,” said Dr Shaad.

Dr Badar Dhamrah said that although Dr Buriro was a staunch political worker, but his research work on Sindhi language was also of great importance.

Khadim Rind said that Dr Mahabat developed political understanding and liking for science amongst students in Sindh. He wanted to see Sindh free from all kinds of usurpation.

Dr Ahsan Danish, who has his doctorate on Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, said that Dr Buriro was a genius person who not only wrote profusely but also did enormous intellectual and political work.

Prof Ghulam Hussain Katpar, a former principal of Govt Degree College, said Dr Buriro had special interest in politics, philosophy, translation and language.

Prof Manzoor Chhajiro, chairman of the Dr Mohabat Buriro Academy, said that political lectures of Dr Buriro were worth-listening which he delivered in abundance in almost all parts of Sindh. He was viewed with great appreciation for his works and devotion towards political awareness as well as promotion of education in Sindh.

Earlier, Dr Riazat Buriro, the deceased writer’s brother who has done his PhD in linguistics and serves as the director of the academy, told the audience that Dr Buriro devoted his entire life for the amelioration of the lot of people of Sindh.

Others who spoke at the programme included Sattar Hakro, Rizwan Gul, Malhar Sindhi and Waseem Setai.

The ‘Dr Muhabat Buriro Award 2022’ was given to Mukhtiar Malik, Dr Dur Mohammad Pathan and Dr Khalid Hussain Buriro in recognition of their services in the field of literature, research and social work, respectively.
