Ray Of Light wins

KARACHI, Jan 27: Ray Of Light, a chestnut horse owned by M. Zafar, galloped to victory in the main event of the Winter Gymkhana Meeting Sunday at Karachi Racecourse.

Having the services of jockey Nisar Ahmed in the saddle, Ray Of Light chasing Golden News for most part of the six furlong journey, collared the front runner 100 yards from the winning post to win the race by half a length. Tomahawk was third while Baby Face completed the frame.

The day’s honours however, were bagged by riding boy Kashif Ali and last year’s champion trainer Mohammad Rafiq Karim, who each finished the afternoon’s programme with a brace of winners.

Kashif piloted home Zabyan in the third event and completed his fine double through Hamza Saheb in the fifth. Karim had his moments of glory while saddling Ever Smiling in the fourth race and Shab-e-Noor, ridden by his younger brother Bashir Karim in the sixth.

The first race of the afternoon was won by our fancy Prism Of Life, a bay horse owned by Mrs. Zain Younus. The winner was ridden by S. Khan, beating off a belated burst by Powerful Tarzan.
