PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has planned to hold tournaments of traditional games in different districts of the province. The games will be launched from Thursday (today) in Lakki Marwat (Bannu region), officials said.

Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, director operations Azizullah Jan said that the directorate of sports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was organising the games and preparations in this regard had been made.

He said such games would be held in all regions of the province, including tribal districts.

Mr Jan said that under special directive of the chief minister, provincial director-general sports Khalid Khan had decided to promote traditional games in KP along with other sports.

The traditional games in the districts would be followed by competitions at the divisional level in the local grounds.

These games include kabaddi, tug of war, volleyball, Pitho Gol Garam, Gulli Dandaand Balori. These competitions will continue in Bannu region till May 22.

Traditional games, including Gulli Danda, Pooch Pooch and Ghaskay, will be held in Waziristan districts where local teams would show their talent.

The official said that all the teams from Mardan region would take part in Maakha competition to be held from May 29 to 31 in Swabi. Such games would be held in all districts on different dates.

The final matches of all these games would be held in Peshawar at the end of the year.

He said that steps were being taken to provide proper facilities to the players and officials.
