ISLAMABAD: On the direction of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) has decided to inform customers about outages through WhatsApp messages.

Moreover, a focal person has been appointed on each feeder while WhatsApp groups of the users are being created.

According to a statement, the Iesco chief executive officer has issued instructions to all the field formations to ensure prior intimations to customers regarding power failure and load management due to gap in demand or supply or due to system maintenance so that the customers could manage their routine activities accordingly.

“Following the instruction of federal secretary (Power Division), all field formations have been issued directive to create Whatsapp groups of customers on each feeder and a focal person/facilitator may also be nominated who will ensure timely dispatch of Whatsapp messages to relevant customers in case of any power failure or any temporary shutdown.

“Focal persons/facilitating officers will also arrange meetings with customers of relevant feeders, listen to their complaints and will ensure complaints redressal in minimum time.

“Teams are in field to get updated mobile numbers of more than 3.3 million customers throughout the Iesco region so that it could be confirmed that Whatsapp messages are being delivered to right customers. To monitor all these activities, a committee comprising the chief engineering level officers have been constituted in the Iesco head office which will submit a reports on a daily basis to the chief executive officer,” it stated.
