BAHAWALPUR: Two suspected robbers were killed in an alleged encounter in Nowshehra Jadid police precincts, about 40 kms from here, on Monday.

According to police sources, suspects identified as Abdul Majid alias Meeja Hissam and Allah Ditta alias Shairi Hissam and their some accomplices were allegedly looting passengers at village Jhangra Eastern bridge.

Meanwhile, a police patrol spotted them and on seeing the personnel they opened fire. During a shootout, the police claimed that two robbers were killed in firing by their accomplices while others managed to escape.

The district police claimed that the deceased were among the six prisoners who escaped police custody at Qureshiwala in Lodhran district last month and had snatched official arms, including two kalashnikovs which were now recovered from them.

The deceased were wanted in dozens of criminal cases in Bahawalpur, Multan, Lodhran and Rahim Yar Khan.
