MUZAFFARGARH: The Multan district administration, in acknowledgement of the services of popular Seraiki poet Shakir Shujaabadi, has installed a brass plaque at his residence. Shakir Shujaabadi is an eminent personality of the region and a well-known poet of Seraiki.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amir Karim Khan visited Shujaabad along with district officers and unveiled the plaque on Saturday. Additional Deputy Commissioner Akhlaq Ahmed, assistant commissioners of Multan city and Shujaabad Khawaja Umair Mehmood and Nasir Shehzad Dogar and a large number of officers and civil society activists attended the function.

On the occasion of the ceremony, the district administration also made arrangements for the renovation of the residence of Shakir Shujaabadi.

Addressing the function, DC Khan said that Shakir Shujaabadi has made the region famous all over the world with his revolutionary and romantic poetry. His poetry gives a powerful voice to the voiceless of backward areas. The DC said he would continue providing full care and treatment to the eminent poet while the installation of the honorary plaque was an attempt to acknowledge his services.

Shakir Shujaabadi expressed his gratitude for the initiative of the district administration. Songs of Shakir Shujaabadi were also sung at the reception. Deputy Commissioner Amir Karim Khan also presented gifts to Shakir Shujaabadi on behalf of the district administration. Locals also thanked the government for acknowledging the services of the Seraiki hero.
