OKARA: The district police claimed to have arrested a suspect who raped and killed an eight-year-old girl at Manoowala village near Basirpur.

District Police Officer Faisal Gulzar said a team headed by Deepalpur police circle ASP Muhammad Awais Khan after hectic efforts traced Ali Ahmad, a resident of the same village, who on some pretext took the minor girl to fields where he strangled her after rape.

The district police recommended cash prizes and commendation certificates for the team.

EID GIFTS: The district police have distributed Rs1.7 million for uniform and Eid gifts for the national volunteers who perform duty along with police.

The law enforcers heightened the security across the district and 1,800 policemen including women constables would be on duty at 461 places of worship. Police said they would deal the one-wheelers with iron hand.
