KARACHI: Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) chairman Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi on Monday called for joint efforts from the military and civilian leadership to bring the country out of the recent political turmoil.

Speaking at the “Paigham-i-Pakistan Regional Peace Conference 2022” here, he said that all the segments of society should play a vibrant role for reformation because integrated efforts were needed to discourage and eliminate the tendencies of intolerance.

He said: “Pakistanis are proud of their armed forces and any effort to undermine their sacrifices cannot be tolerated,” he said.

“I also request the country’s political leadership to join hands for the stability and progress of Pakistan. A collective struggle is required for the supremacy of the Constitution. We need charter of Pakistan and all the political leadership should collectively work for it,” he said.

He said the country needed tolerance, brotherhood and respect to each other for the sake of future generations.

“Growing intolerance in society is regrettable and therefore, all the segments of society should come forward to discourage it,” said Hafiz Ashrafi. “Only solution to the challenges facing the country is dialogue. Political and religious parties of Pakistan are a reality, and the political and religious leaders should discourage the negative sentiments prevailing among people.”
