KARACHI, Dec 4: The 21st International Volunteers Day (IVD) will be observed in Karachi on Dec 5 at the Abdullah Haroon Muslim Gymkhana, at 4pm. Originally sponsored by the UN Proclamation of 1985, the day in question is observed globally by the governments and civil society organizations to pay tributes to the volunteers for their welfare services to their fellow-brethren.

The programme in Karachi includes introduction of sixteen volunteers for their outstanding contributions and presentation of the annual IVD shields. Commencing from Dec 5, 1998 the IVD organizing committee has presented such shields to 107 such dedicated volunteers during the last six years.

Its annual publication Who‘s Who of Volunteers in Sindh- 2005-06 will also be released on the occasion. On the occasion, a book “Samaj key Derakhshan Sitarey” will also be launched.

The speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, will be the chief guest.—PPI
