LEARNING mathematics in school is no less than a challenge for many students. This is because the subject is not being taught effectively in Pakistan as most teachers still use the old methods of teaching which only help students to pass the examinations without even understanding what they have written in the test paper.

Away from the dry calculations and the theoretical equations, mathematics has an interesting practical aspect connected with general life traits, such as the power of reasoning, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving ability and even effective communication skills.

This way the teachers would also overcome math anxiety which is a common problem among the students which prevents them from solving mathematical problems even when they know the answer because of anxiety and fear of being wrong.

Mathematics education needs to be more practical, responsive and even more fun to inspire students with its concepts both inside and outside the classroom.

Furthermore, there should be mathematical contests at district and national levels for students where they can show their mathematical abilities.
