RAWALPINDI: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) on Saturday launched a spring tree plantation campaign in the city.

The campaign was inaugurated by planting saplings at Potohar Park by PHA Chairman Asif Mehmood, Director General Zaheer Anwar Japa and the principal of Government Primary School Rehmatabad. Students of the school also participated in the campaign.

“We have decided to plant more than 75,000 trees in the garrison city during the drive and 25,000 plants will be distributed in different green points established in and around the city,” said the PHA chairman while talking to Dawn.

He said that it is very important for the authority to involve students in such activities which will help in highlighting the importance of plantation among the youth.

He said that according to the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the plantation campaign was aimed at making the city of Rawalpindi green and clean.

He said that the PHA would also arrange functions for the citizens, especially for children, during the drive.

“Celebrating the spring season with fun and fair, it would also be taken as an opportunity to make the citizens, especially students, responsible for contributing to lessening environmental pollution.”

He said it was the responsibility of the citizens who visit parks to not only protect the flowers and plants but also give suggestions for making them green and fresh.
