SWABI: The police have arrested a man along with a son-in-law for poisoning his daughter to death for honour a fortnight ago.

Briefing mediapersons about the arrests here on Friday, district police officer Mohammad Sohaib Khan said the deceased woman belonged to Zarobi village of Topi.

He said at the time of the incident on Feb 9, her father claimed she had died a natural death.

However, he said on information from locals that the victim was killed, the police had formed a team led by SP investigations Fayyaz Khan to trace the killers.

“The victim’s father told the police that his son-in-law used to force his daughter to dance in front of his friends and recorded her videos,” DPO Sohaib said.

“The woman’s father further said whenever his daughter refused to dance, his son-in-law warned her of posting her videos on social media and also sending them to her parents,” the DPO said.

“When she refused to dance, he sent her dancing videos to me, prompting me to poison her to death to save family honour,” the police officer said quoting the victim’s father.

Mr Sohaib said the victim’s mother also recorded her statement with the police, saying when she returned from neighbour’s house she saw her husband standing near the body of his daughter.

“On my inquiry, he told me that he had poisoned her daughter because she had dishonoured the family. Later, we buried the body,” the DPO said quoting the woman.

Mr Sohaib said the police had approached a local court for allowing exhumation of the body to know the exact cause of her death. He said the body was exhumed and a medical officer took the samples for analysis.

He said the police had registered an FIR against the two suspects, as the medical report was awaited.

Meanwhile, the police have also arrested a woman along with her father and two brothers for murdering her husband and later burying the body at a secret place in December last year.

A brother of the deceased had got registered an FIR in Yar Hussain police station on Dec 20, 2021.

SP investigations Fayyaz Khan said the arrested persons confessed to murdering the man over a domestic issue.
