LAHORE: The Lahore Arts Council (LAC) will hold a three-day first of its kind festival on Lahore, featuring artistes, writers, intellectuals, visual artists, players and educationists belonging to the city.

“Lahore has a rich cultural heritage and historically its significance is immense. That’s why we have decided to hold a festival of Lahore inviting all stakeholders, prominent people who belong to Lahore, the common folks of Lahore. Everything featuring in the festival will belong to the city” LAC Executive Director Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi told Dawn.

Mr Zulfi said such a festival was needed since long and it would be a regular feature of Lahore’s cultural calendar.

He said the festival would have poetry, discussions, book launches, music, theatre, dialogues, food and handicraft stalls.

“We are planning to hold this festival in March after the Pakistan Super League.”

Mr Zulfi said an exhibition of artworks based on Lahore and its people would also be part of the festival in which leading and mid-career artists would put their works on display. The exhibition will be reflective of different festivals Lahore is known for such as Basant, Mela Chiraghan and other such festivals, he added.

The Folk Music Festival scheduled to be held on Feb 18 has been postponed due to PSL-7 and will now be held in March.

The LAC has a plan to organise a film festival in March in which classic Urdu and Punjabi movies will be screened and actors, directors and producers from film and television would be invited to the event.
