NAROWAL: A policeman and two passersby were injured when robbers opened fire on them near Bogra village in Sialkot on Tuesday.
Khurram Shahzad Malik, a spokesperson for the Sialkot district police, said the Motra police station received information about a robbery incident.
A team including constables Zahid Maqsood and Muhammad Iftikhar chased and flagged down three robbers who opened fire. Constable Maqsood and passersby Mohammad Akram and Mohammad Hanif were severely injured and the robbers fled.
The injured were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital of Daska in a critical condition.
Later, SP Investigation Farooq Amjad and the Daska DSP, along with a contingent of police, reached the spot. Police launched hunt for the robbers.
District Police Officer Muhammad Hassan Iqbal directed the teams to use all available resources to arrest the suspects. He said the policemen risked their lives to protect citizens.
Some people protested against the increasing incidents of theft and robbery and demanded that Chief Minister Usman Buzdar take notice and ensure protection of the citizens.

In August 2006, Tauseefur Rehman and Akhtar Ali had allegedly killed three persons of their own village, identified as Muhammad Kashif, Muhammad Younas and Safdar Ali.
A first information report was registered against them with the Phalora Police Station on the complaint of Asif Ali. The accused had fled abroad after the murder.
District Police Officer Muhammad Hassan Iqbal formed a team under SP Investigation Farooq Amjad, Deputy Superintendent Legal Qaiser Amin Butt and Sub-Inspector Muhammad Naseer Ahmed and tasked it with repatriating the fugitives through the Interpol.
Sialkot police team arrested accused Tauseefur Rehman with the help of the Interpol.
Khurram Shehzad Malik, the spokesman for the district police, said the police had arrested Akhtar Ali, another accused in the murder case, from Dubai through Interpol a year ago.
