BAHAWALPUR: The Saddar police claimed to have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from a man here on Tuesday.

Police said they recovered 73 pistols with 14,120 rounds, five rifles with 1,180 rounds and 1,500 cartridges – all worth about Rs5 million – from the suspect.

Saddar DSP Chaudhry Fayyaz Ahmed and SHO Mohsin Sardar told a press conference that they arrested Muhammad Amin, a resident of Hasilpur, who used to provide illegal arms to the gangsters of katcha area of Rahim Yar Khan along the river Sindh.

They claimed that during interrogation, Ahmed revealed that he had provided illegal arms worth Rs8.5 million to two criminals of the katcha areas in the last one month alone.

They said teams arrested the suspect near northern bypass and the the arms were dumped in his car (LEE- 8177). In the light of his statement, the policemen said, a team had been formed to arrest his accomplices and clients.
