PESHAWAR: Veteran Hindko writer and social activist, Master Bashir Ahmad, passed away at his residence here on Saturday at 81, family sources confirmed. He left behind six brothers and an extended family to mourn his death.

He was laid to rest in a Peshawar graveyard the same day. Family members, relatives, notables, local artists and rights activists attended his funeral prayers.

Born in 1941, Bashir Ahmad popularly known as Sufi Bashir had adopted teaching as profession. He also remained active participant in literary and cultural activities in and around Peshawar. He used to contribute to literary journals in Hindko and Urdu.

Sufi Bashir Ahmad was known for preserving old files, especially on Radio Pakistan and popular magazine ‘Aahang’, and had collected valuable stuff, which would benefit young research scholars.

Local residents held him in great esteem due to his humble nature as he continued teaching children even after retirement.
