LAHORE, Nov 25: The Hope Society for Rehabilitation of Disabled has decided to launch a “New life project” in collaboration with the Punjab Baitul Maal to provide artificial limbs to quake victims. At a news conference here on Friday, society president Dr Khalid Niazi said it had established two workshops to manufacture artificial limbs while using modern technology.

The workshops would have a capacity to manufacture 20 artificial limbs a day, he said.

He said foreign experts would visit Pakistan on the request of the society to fix artificial limbs and train the disabled, who lost their limbs in the quake. From Malaysia, he said, Donald Kerr would be visiting Lahore.

He said a team of experts from Britain would reach Pakistan on Dec 10. Similarly, experts from India would also come here and work for the rehabilitation of the disabled.

Dr Niazi said the work of fixing artificial limbs to the quake victims with amputated limbs, who had been undergoing treatment in different city hospitals, would begin soon.

He said the society would manufacture modular artificial limbs. Besides, electronic arms were also being manufactured in the country.

The Hope Society, Dr Niazi said, had also provided special jackets to those who had suffered spinal cord injuries and were being treated in different city hospitals.
