KOHAT: Four nomads were killed and a child was injured when a blast ripped through a tent in a far-flung mountainous region of Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision of Kohat on Sunday.

DSP Adad Zubair told Dawn that the incident occurred in Gulu Tangi area of Shindand. He said the bodies were shifted to Jawaki area after crossing a difficult terrain through a mountain.

The deceased were identified as Rehman Khan, 12, Habibur Rehman, 35, Falzebi Bibi, 26, Siddique Khan, 10, and the injured child, Naveed, 3.

DSP Zubair said the shepherd families from Oghi area of Mansehra district were living in the area in tents.

He said earlier the police perceived the case as that of lightning but after receiving conflicting reports they sent a team of bomb disposal squad, which confirmed that it was a blast caused by a an old mortar buried underneath the ground.

Mr Zubair said the area had remained under the control of banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan for a long time and witnessed gun battles between terrorists and the security forces.

Meanwhile, armed robbers deprived two businessmen of cash, mobile phones and ATM cards in Lachi tehsil on Saturday night.

Adil Mehmood, owner of a general store, and a friend were going home after closing their shops when robbers stopped them on an alley and looted more than Rs65,500, mobile phones and ATM cards from them at gunpoint. They fled the scene on a motorcycle.
