ISLAMABAD: A suspected car lifter was injured and arrested during an encounter with police on Friday, police said.

The shootout between the suspected car lifters and police team took place on Friday in the area of I-11/1, they added.

Earlier, Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) got information about presence of two suspected auto-thieves in a shrine. A police team comprising eight officials was constituted to raid and arrest the thieves.

The team reached the shrine and started searching the suspects with torch light, they said, adding when the suspects saw the police team they tried to escape from there.

They were asked to surrender, but the suspects opened fire on the police team, who narrowly escaped.

As precautionary measures the police resorted to firing in the air with SMGs.

One of their accomplice received a bullet fired by the thieves who was arrested later on.

The suspect sustained the bullet on his right leg, fired from his accomplice, the police said, adding that the police also seized a 30-bore pistol.

Later the injured was shifted to hospital.
