RAWALPINDI: The chief traffic officer (CTO) on Monday visited Murree to review traffic arrangements in view of the Met Office forecast anther spell of snowfall.

He visited check posts and briefed the police personnel deployed there about the measures taken to the traffic flowing.

A spokesman for the traffic police said that CTO Taimoor Khan also distributed pamphlets among the tourists visiting Murree to educate them about safety measures they should adopt while travelling in snow.

He also issued instructions to the traffic staff besides displaying awareness banners on the highways and at the entrance of Murree.

Chief Traffic Officer Khan said the city traffic police used electronic and print media, their radio station FM88.6, social media pages to inform tourists about the severity of the weather.

He said tourists had been requested to travel to Murree keeping in mind the advice issued by the traffic police so that you can make your journey safe and enjoyable.

He urged the tourists to choose mechanically good and fit vehicle when visiting Murree during snowfall.

“Make sure to keep toolkit in your car. Use chain on car tires during snowfall. Avoid wrong overtaking, double and wrong parking,” the CTO said. Due to slippery roads, vehicles move slowly, so do not lose patience and avoid overtaking during traffic jam, he said.

The CTO advised to keep extra warm clothes and food items with you in case of snow and severe weather. Do not completely close the windows of the car if you use the heater in the car as continuous operation of the heater will cause carbon monoxide in the car which can be harmful to human life.

He asked tourists to cooperate with traffic police staff and follow the instructions given by them so that you can make your journey safe.
