KARACHI: 3 killed in road accidents

KARACHI, Nov 17: Three persons died in two separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Thursday. Police said that a couple died and their granddaughter was injured when a speeding bus knocked them down in the DHA.

Police said that Mohammad Farhad, 50, his wife Faiza, 45 and their 1-year-old granddaughter were on a bicycle at Khayaban-i-Ittehad when a speeding bus of DHA hit them.

They were taken to the JPMC where the couple was pronounced dead while the little girl was admitted for treatment.

Police have arrested the errant driver Mohammad Khalid.

In another accident in Orangi Town, Sikandar, 17, died when a speeding truck knocked him down. Police have arrested the truck driver and impounded the vehicle.

KILLED: A taxi driver was shot dead while resisting cellphone snatching by armed robbers in Orangi Town on Thursday.

Police said that Rajab Ali, a taxi driver was intercepted by armed suspects in sector 11-1/2. As he tried to resist, the suspects opened fire and fled with the cellphone.

In another incident, a young man was injured in a bid to save his cellphone from robbers.

Police said that Sohail,20, was on his motorcycle when suspects also on a bike intercepted him and demanded the cellphone. As he resisted, the suspect opened fire and fled. The young man was shifted to the hospital.
