FAISALABAD, Nov 16: Trade organizations, the lawyers community and elite of the town have rejected a proposed plan of dividing the Faisalabad city district into two parts by giving the district status to Jaranwala town. At a meeting held here with Anjuman Tajiran president Muhammad Nawaz Vohra in the chair, trade leaders said that a particular group with having a stronghold in the provincial hierarchy was trying to divide Faisalabad district for its personal gains.

They said the division would be detrimental to the progress and prosperity of the people of this region as it would open a new Pandora’s box. Such a high profile decision for personal benefits could also bring a bad name to the rulers. In the recent past, there was absolutely no demand from any quarters to give the district status to Jaranwala town but some influential people were hatching conspiracies, they said.

They urged President Pervez Musharraf to take action against bureaucrats who presented this ill-conceived and anti-people plan.

Scores of local District Bar Association members have also cast away the proposed plan declaring it a corrupt practice on the part of the bureaucracy and provincial government.

The DBA called its general house meeting for Nov 19 with president Saleem Jahangir Chattha in the chair to finalize the future line of action for stopping the government from implementing the proposed plan.

City circles said that most of industrial units had been shifted to Khurrianwala and its adjoining areas and this part was included in Jaranwala and Chak Jhumra towns under the devolution of power plan.

They said that industrial activities would not flourish if the plan of dividing Faisalabad into two districts was implemented.

They called upon the Punjab chief minister to come forward and reject such nasty plan otherwise citizens would take out protest demonstrations.

GOVERNOR: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has directed the DPO to take all possible steps for the recovery of a minor child who was kidnapped for ransom about a month ago.

These instructions were issued after complaints made by elderly person Muhammad Ramzan during Governor’s recent visit of Faisalabad. The governor assured the complainant that his grandson would be recovered and the police would protect his other family members.

Some unidentified men had kidnapped Muhammad Unas (7) from his house in Allama Iqbal Colony in the limits of Batala Colony police station about a month ago. Kidnappers had demanded Rs2 million ransom for the safe release of the minor boy.

Police had registered an abduction case, but so far found no clue to abductors.
