FIVE-RUPEE COIN

FIVE-RUPEE COIN: Every month I visit the bank to encash a rent cheque of Rs39,125, and every month I am given Rs39,120 against my cheque with the excuse that a Rs5 coin is not available. Why does not the bank compensate me sometime and give me Rs10? I am sure that must be available. At the end of the year, I will be short-changed by Rs60, which matters to me. And the bank, or at least its teller, gets to earn an unearned amount of Rs60, which clearly matters to it/him. Who do I complain to?

TRANSPORT FARES: The owners of local transport in Karachi have increased fares without any government notification, which usually leads to scuffle between the passengers and conductors. Some transporters are charging up to Rs100 which is quite a high fare. It seems there is no authority to check the fares in Karachi. The officials concerned should clarify whether or not the fares have been increased.

COMPETENT TEACHERS: Our education continues to be in the doldrums. Apart from divided education streams and subsequent expectations of students, there is the serious issue of incompetent teachers in all streams and at all levels of the system. The policy-makers and civil society need to work towards the betterment of teachers and present ‘teaching’ as a lucrative career to attract the best talent from society.

URGENT NEED: I received my driver’s licence recently from the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP), Islamabad. I wanted to get myself registered with a ride-hailing company which checked my records online, but found no relevant record. When contacted, NHMP officials simply assured me that it would be done ‘soon’. Since I have to get myself registered immediately, the NHMP ‘soon’ is not soon enough for me.
