ISLAMABAD: Though the Covid-19 positivity ratio in the federal capital and Rawalpindi district has been falling, the health authorities fear an increase in cases if people did not follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).

As many as 39 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 in Islamabad and Rawalpindi districts during the last 24 hours, with the infection rate in both district remaining below 1pc.

District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia said: “The positivity of cases was 0.86pc which shows that cases are declining. However as viruses of influenza family become active during winter, we appeal to people to strictly adhere to the SOPs, including maintaining social distance.”

He said the good thing was that a considerable number of residents of the capital were vaccinated, which had reduced chances of infection.

“People who have still not gotten immunised or had to get the second dose of the vaccine should do so immediately in order to achieve optimum level of immunity,” Dr Zia said.

Meanwhile, as per data shared by the District Health Authority, the positivity ratio in Rawalpindi district remained 0.9pc during the last 24 hours. As many as 1,206 samples were collected out of which results of 11 individuals came back positive.

There are 104 active patients in the district out of whom 19 are in hospitals, including seven who arrived from other districts, and 85 are home isolated. A total of six patients are from Potohar Town and three from the city areas. One patient each came from Taxila and Attock.

Four patients were admitted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 11 were in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), three in Fauji Foundation Hospital and one patient was admitted to Bilal Hospital.

There are three patients on ventilator in Rawalpindi while eight required oxygen support.
