LAHORE: A solo exhibition, titled Constellation of Pakistan, by Islamabad-based artist Qamar Siddiqui was hosted by the Crescent Art Gallery on the lawns of Governor House on Saturday.
Graced by Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and his wife as chief guests, the exhibition primarily showcased the paintings as well as calligraphy and sculptures of Mr Siddiqui besides some other pieces from the gallery’s collection.
Speaking at the event, Siddiqui talked about his 25-year journey as an artist and how he has always tried to promote peace and harmony through his work.
Talking to Dawn, the artist explained the exhibition was based on peace and purity. “The more we’re pure and honest with each other, the stronger our relationships will be. That results in peace and prosperity.”
Siddiqui’s acrylic paintings on canvas evidently make use of a lot of white colour, feathers and a turbaned figure sitting with his back towards the observer. He explained that the feather was used as a symbol of knowledge, white denoted purity and honesty, while the turbaned figure depicted Islamic culture.”We need to eliminate the sectarianism rife in society and strengthen our bonds.”
Addressing the event, the governor and his wife talked about the need for promotion of Pakistani art nationally and internationally.Governor Sarwar eulogised overseas Pakistanis and also stressed on gender equality and women’s empowerment, paying tribute to his wife for her charity work here.
The event also featured a discussion by the Artists Association of Punjab on the various definitions and perspectives of art featuring an all-women panel of artists and art academics. This was followed by a bhangra performance by a dance group.
Addressing on the occasion, Argentinean Ambassador Leopoldo Sahores said he had discussed with the governor the steps to increase bilateral trade and commerce.
“Pakistan has a lot to offer in terms of culture and art. I welcome Pakistan to showcase its art and culture in Argentina some time.”
Crescent Art Gallery CEO Sameer Nasir, exhibition curator Sidra Nasir and other guests also spoke on the occasion.The event was attended by singer Waris Baig and a host of art connoisseurs.
