ISLAMABAD: Even with a drop in the temperature of the twin cities, 188 people contracted dengue fever on Thursday.

District Health Officer (Islamabad) Dr Zaeem Zia said during the last 24 hours, 63 cases were reported from rural areas and 58 from urban areas. Nineteen patients were admitted at Federal General Hospital, followed by 11 at Holy Family Hospital, eight at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), two each at Capital Hospital and District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital and one at Polyclinic, while the remaining 78 at different private hospitals.

He said 21 cases were reported from Tarali, followed by 19 from Koral, seven from Tarnol, nine from Alipur, three from Sohan, two from Sihala, and one each from Rawat and Chirrah.

The tally of fever cases in the capital during the current season reached 3327, the DHO said, adding that out of the total 1,944 were reported from rural areas and 1,383 from urban areas. The death toll is 11, seven from rural areas and four from urban areas, Dr Zia said.

During the last 24 hours, 946 residual spray and 106 fogging activities were conducted in different areas of the capital to prevent fever spread and eliminate potential breeding sites of larvae, he said, adding separate teams of the District Health Office found 945 potential breeding sites of larvae and eliminated them.
