MULTAN, Jan 24: Two people died after drinking poisonous liquor here on Thursday in Ansar Colony.

Arif Ali, 20, Shaukat Ali, 32 and Muhammad Salim fell unconscious after drinking liquor on Wednesday night. They were admitted to the Nishtar Hospital where Arif and Shaukat died on Thursday morning. Salim’s condition was stated to be serious.

Arif’s father Mubarak alleged that bootleggers Ilyas and Mushtaq forced liquor into the mouths of his son.

Ansar Colony union council Nazim Allah Ditta Ansari told this correspondent that Ilyas and Mushtaq have been selling narcotics and liquor in the area for many years.

In June last on the protest of area people the police closed their shop. But just after eight days they again started their business, he said.

He demanded that their business should be stopped immediately and the accused should be brought to book.

ALLEGATIONS: The city Nazim had been unjustly distributing development funds among his favourites.

This was alleged by 19 Nazims and Naib Nazims who were protesting in front of the Press Club here on Thursday against dual policies of city Nazim Faisal Mukhtar.

They said the PTCL gave Rs25 million to the Multan Municipal Corporation for reconstruction of roads which the former had dug up for laying cables. The contracts for the reconstruction of roads were given to those who had been enjoying friendly relations with the Nazim, they alleged.

Even the funds allocated for the development of each union council were not justly distributed, they maintained.

The Nazims who participated in the protest included Sheikh Fiaz Ahmad, Dr Tariq Lodhi, Malik Aashiq Shajra, Sheikh Shahid Jamal, Jawad Hafiz, Zahid Butt and Malik Shaukat Deajar, and Naib Nazims Usman Bhatti, Ishfaq, Rahat Longha, Khalid, Younas Khan, Latif Arain, Muhammad Saghir, Ghulam Husain, Salim Shah and Naik Muhammad.

STABBED TO DEATH: A man was stabbed to death on the premises of the district courts here on Thursday.

According to police, Aslam’s wife Faiz had moved the court for dissolution of her marriage. On Thursday, when she came to attend the court proceedings with her cousin Ghulam Farid, Aslam attacked on him with a knife.

Farid succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

Aslam, after surrendering before the police, alleged that Farid had developed illicit relations with his wife. — NOUMAN
