HYDERABAD: In an attempt to promote tourism in the province, the Sindh culture department would offer tour to historical and heritage spots in Hyderabad from Nov 14.

Sindh Secretary Culture and Tourism Abdul Rahim Soomro made the announcement at a meeting he presided here on Thursday.

He said that people from across Pakistan could register themselves for the tour to heritage sites of Hyderabad.

The culture department would also present a model of virtual tour of heritage sites, which would include detailed briefing on the tourist places, he added.

Hyderabad commissioner Abbas Baloch said the culture department in collaboration with the district administration would ensure tour to other famous spots in different cities as well. Lodging and boarding arrangements for tourists would be made and relevant information about the sites would be provided to the visitors, he explained.

He announced formation of a tourist committee that would finalise all required arrangements.

He said that Hyderabad had many historical places and tourist spots on its outskirts, which could be developed properly to promote tourism and efforts were under way in that regard.

He said the culture department and district administration were also offering opportunities to private sector to come forward and preserve the history of the city.

He said that Besant Hall, tombs of Mirs, tomb of Ghulam Shah Kalhoro, Mukhi House, Hasrat Mohani library, Mitha Ram hostel and other historical places had been conserved while work on other buildings was under way.

He said that new efforts would ensure conservation of the heritage in Hyderabad besides providing tourism opportunities. He directed officials to hold an awareness walk and engage members of civil society.

Deputy commissioner Fuad Soomro said the district administration would invite people from different segments of society to tourism in Hyderabad.
