PESHAWAR: The FF Steel and KP Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for training of market-oriented manpower specialised in the steel sector.

The agreement was signed during a certificate distribution ceremony of a steel training programme jointly managed by a public-private consortium at FF Steel head office here on Wednesday.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister Abdul Karim Khan was chief guest of the occasion. Thirty students were enrolled in the six-month training process involving seven days of practical training, followed by seven days of theoretical work.

Six successful students were offered jobs at FF Steel, which intends to open a new plant in Karachi, followed by diversification towards exploring copper export business and steel re-bars export to Central Asian Republics.

Addressing the ceremony, Abdul Karim Khan said that the training programme would help FF Steel in developing skilled labour for its upcoming projects and act as a role model for other organisations to follow.

Similarly, Industries, Commerce and Technical Education Secretary Humayun Khan said that such projects were a perfect example of public-private consortium.

The chief executive officer of FF Steel, Zarak Khattak, said that the pilot project was a success for the organisation in one of its goals of community development.
