No time frame set for conclusion of IMF talks: govt

ISLAMABAD: The Finance Division on Sunday announced that negotiations between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have been moving forward in Washington positively.

According to a statement, the Secretary of Finance Division is leading the talks with the IMF in Washington DC. It said that technical teams of both sides are continuing detailed discussions in virtual format after exchange of relevant data sets.

The Finance Division said that no time frame was set at any stage for the conclusion of talks.

Earlier on Friday, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin while addressing a news conference at the Pakistan Embassy, following a round of talks with IMF, had said that finance secretary would stay in Washington for continuing the talks with the lender while the governor of State Bank and he himself would be in New York and join the talks virtually.

Seems that roping in the world famous Mr. Shaukat Tarin to run the Finance Ministry and deal with the IMF hasn't worked. The very fact that he's left his deputy in Washington whereas he and the SB Gov have left for NY says that the IMF talks are not going anywhere. He and the SB Gov are in NY to find their next job.

It is advisable to select some financial expert to talk to IMF, IMF is a professional Banking organization. This ex Bank president have no knowledge about IMF working and modern terms.

Longer it takes, signals that differences are more between IMF and Pakistan. Its indeed a very very bitter pills to swollow for Pakistan. Price rise and inflation is already a record high and the terms to be given to Pakistan by IMF would make things even worse. Wait and watch for all of us.
