PESHAWAR: The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Swabi, held a reference to condole the sad demise of nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, and to pay tribute to him for the outstanding services he rendered as the first project director of the GIKI.
The reference was attended by pro-rectors, deans and directors, faculty members, students and members of the staff. Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Rector GIK Institute, presided over the condolence session held at the School of Management Sciences the other day.
A statement issued here on Wednesday said Dr Fazal Ahmad briefed the participants about the valuable services of late Dr AQ Khan for the national defence, education and other educational, research and welfare projects.
While enumerating his contribution, he stated that Dr AQ Khan was a national hero and pride of Pakistan for his tremendous contribution to different assignments in the fields of engineering sciences, emerging technologies and materials and applied sciences.
Dr Fazal said Dr Khan was part of the original team that established the GIK Institute, and his role as a project director was very pivotal in making it as a centre of excellence in the fields of engineering sciences and technology in a remote area.
The GIKI rector also appreciated the role of late Dr Khan in establishing a network of national and international scientists and engineers.
