RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police (CTP) issued tickets to 14,624 vehicles and motorcycles during a crackdown against wrong parking and also formed special squads to enforce traffic laws in the city where the shortage of parking places has become one of the primary issues.

Despite the fact that the traffic police launched campaigns to check the violations and also educate the citizens about traffic rules, it appears to be tolerant or lenient towards public transporters who ignore the traffic rules.

A spokesman for the traffic police said CTP’s fork lifters’ squads issued tickets to 14,624 drivers of vehicles and motorcycles during the last one month over wrong parking.

The spokesman said the traffic police had initiate action against violators of parking rules and elimination of wrong parking to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow on major highways.

He said special squads and mobile squads had also been formed to maintain smooth flow of traffic. The squads will take action against those violating parking rules and causing traffic hazards.

A large-scale operation against wrong parking, double parking to further improve traffic flow in Cantt Saddar, Bank Road, Peshawar Road, Raja Bazaar, City Saddar Road, Bara Market, Commercial Market, Sadiqabad and markets and bazaars is being launched.

He said that the education wing of the police was also in the process of briefing citizens about parking and other traffic rules.

A senior citizen said it sometimes appears that traffic is managed without the presence of wardens and their superiors.

“The majority of motorists do not want to travel to markets, especially with their families, since they may encounter parking issues and receive a ticket by parking in wrong places due to lack of parking spaces,” he added.
