KOHAT: Political and social activists have denounced excessive gas loadshedding in the resource-rich Kohat district even in summers.

Talking to mediapersons here on Friday, Pakistan Peoples Party MPA from PK-80 constituency Amjid Afridi said that Kohat produced 500mmBtu (million British thermal unit) of gas whereas its total requirement was only 245mmBtu.

He warned that if the government failed to mend its ways the people would suspend gas supply to the country from the local pipeline.

He said that a public meeting would be held on Oct 17 in Kohat to condemn the gas and power loadshedding.

He said earlier gas loadshedding was carried out only in winters, but now the people of Kohat were subjected to outages in summers as well.

Mr Afridi said that gas supply was often suspended in the morning in the city, Chakar Kot, Togh Bala and Payan, Bahawalnagar, Bahadar Kot and Paracha Town.

The MPA said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa produced cheap hydroelectricity, but its residents suffered prolonged outages and also had to pay hefty power bills. He said the people had been fed up with the incumbent rulers for rising inflation and unemployment.

A social worker Shakir Bangash said that the people had been forced to use costly LPG due to gas outages.
