GUJRAT: A pregnant woman was burnt alive allegedly by her husband and father-in-law over honour in Sook Kalan village of Saddar police precincts.

It happened nine days ago but it remained away from media glare till Thursday.

Claiming arrest of two of the suspects, the police said Zainab, a mother of two minor daughters, was burnt alive by her husband Zeeshan Butt, father-in-law Ihsan Elahi and others by pouring kerosene on her.

Police said the suspects had accused the woman of having relations with a villager but she denied the charge.

Ironically, the suspects did not shift her to hospital as she was burnt partially. When she succumbed to burns at home two days later, the accused tried to bury her quietly without informing her parents who lived in Daska.

Some neighbours informed the police which shifted the body to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital where doctors conducted autopsy and her parents were also informed by the police.

A case was lodged against three suspects, including a sister of main suspect Zeeshan under sections 302, 147 and 149 of Pakistan Penal Code on the report of Muhammad Boota, the father of the deceased woman.

Police said Zeeshan and his father had confessed to killing three-month pregnant Zainab.
