NORTH WAZIRISTAN/PESHAWAR: A Pakistan Army soldier was martyred and another injured when a remote-controlled bomb went off in Garyum area of North Waziristan district on Tuesday night.

Officials identified the martyred soldier as Sepoy Fahed and the injured Sepoy Tanveer.

Security forces cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation. No one claimed responsibility for the explosion. Attacks on security forces in North Waziristan have witnessed surged since a local militant group declared ceasefire for 20 days.

In a separate development, a man was killed when unknown attackers opened fire at a market in Miramshah on Wednesday, the police said. The deceased was identified as Hameed, a resident of Dosali area.

Meanwhile, miscreants fired at least three rockets at a government primary school in upper tehsil of Orakzai tribal district on Wednesday. However, no casualty was reported, officials said.

Local residents said three rockets fired from unknown direction landed near the government boys primary school in Sama area. Officials said the deputy commissioner was scheduled to attend an open kutcheri in the school, but the function was cancelled because of the threat alert.

The authorities had declared a holiday in the school to facilitate holding of the event.

Locals said militant groups, including outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan had resurfaced in the upper tehsil of Orakzai. They said two elders were killed a month ago.
