KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced to dedicate an underpass on Shaheed-i-Millat Road in the name of legendary comedian Umer Sharif, who passed away in Germany on Friday due to multiple ailments.

This announcement was made by Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab, who is also a spokesman for the Sindh government and law adviser to chief minister, during his visit to Umer Sharif’s residence on Sunday.

Mr Wahab declared: “The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will name its underpass at the junction of Shaheed-i-Millat and Hyder Ali Roads as Umer Sharif Underpass.”

They have taken the decision to pay tribute and acknowledge the services of the legendary comedian and renowned actor Umer Sharif.

“This is a small contribution from us. Umer Sharif was a great personality and big actor,” observed the administrator. He said they were in contact with the family of the late comedian.

Decision to bring back legendary comedian’s body likely today

The administrator, who was accompanied by Minister for Information Saeed Ghani, offered condolences with Jawad Umer, son of the actor, and other relatives.

“In this time of sorrow, the whole nation and Sindh government is with you,” the administrator told the son.

He said the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had given directions that there should be no hindrances or difficulties in performing the last rites of Umer Sharif.
