LAHORE: A car buyer died after he was thrashed and detained allegedly by the administration of a motor vehicle showroom on the premises of a mega store on Walton Road on Saturday.

Factory Area police identified the deceased as Sweel Gondal (65), resident of Valencia Town, Lahore, who breathed his last inside the showroom.

The FIR stated that the deceased had got a new car booked some months ago and visited the showroom at 4pm on Saturday to lodge protest over delay in delivery of the vehicle.

Police said Sweel Gondal had a verbal clash with showroom manager Zubair Ahmad and left the premises to board his car in the parking lot.

According to Sweel Gondal’s driver Ghulam Hussian, the manager and his security staff stopped their vehicle and detained his boss. Ghulam Hussian said he informed a son of the deceased by phone that the showroom staff had detained and thrashed his father.

Meanwhile, the showroom management rushed Gondal to a private hospital after he fainted but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of Ghulam Hussain and the body was sent to the city morgue for autopsy.

Quoting the driver, Factory Area station house officer Shabbir Awan told Dawn before fainting Gondal had asked him (the driver) to bring his inhaler from the car which suggested that he was an asthma patient.
