UNDUE TAXES

UNDUE TAXES: The Sindh government is planning to impose new taxes to improve the financial position of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). The residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) are already paying conservancy tax/charges on a regular basis to the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC). When the charges will be collected through K-Electirc, as is being suggested, the residents of DHA will also be affected, which will be both unfair and illegal.

FEMALE STAFF: That a regional branch of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has been established in Kuddan, about 70km from Kech, is a welcome step, but the absence of female staff is a cause of concern for the women who visit the office. In our culture, women feel uncomfortable appearing before a stranger even if it is for official purpose. Nadra would do well to recruit female staff for the benefit of the locals.

TRANSMISSION LINES: According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan, the installed electricity capacity is 37,402MW, while the consumption figure in the summers is 25,000MW and it is 12,000MW in the winters. The distribution system, however, has the capacity to transmit only 22,000MW, which means Pakistan has a deficit of 3,000MW despite producing more energy than required. It is obvious that we need to work on the distribution system.

ELECTRICITY ISSUES: Electricity is the basic need of every individual, but the people of Warsak Road in Garhi Sherdad and all the adjacent villages are deprived of this basic right. The residents have often approached the authorities regarding rampant corruption in the power distribution system at all levels which is benefiting the unregistered marble factories in the area at the cost of the locals. The authorities concerned should take steps to end the misery of the people of Warsak.
