KARACHI, Nov 8: Poor villagers living in remote areas of Tharparkar have contributed a sum of over Rs53,000 to the president’s relief fund. An NGO Baanh Beli said in a statement on Tuesday that despite facing extreme poverty, deprivation and hardship, these poor men, women, and children donated generously, sacrificing their own critical needs to help out quake victims.

Though meagre, the contribution is a truly major and inspiring symbol of the resolve of Pakistani nation to meet challenges in this crisis situation, the statement said, adding that a bank draft of the donated amount was presented to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz by MNA Ms Gul-i-Farkhanda, member of the NGO’s executive committee. The prime minister appreciated the spirit of Thar people, it said.—APP
