ISLAMABAD: The number of Covid-19 cases slightly reduced across the country on Friday as 2,928 new cases and 68 deaths were reported in a single day.

The number of Covid-19 cases is declining across the country compared to the last two weeks. On Sept 1, 4,103 cases were reported, while on Sept 8, 4,062 cases were detected and then the downward trend was witnessed for a few days.

On Sept 13, the number of cases reported was 2,593, the lowest in the month, but the cases again started increasing and on Sept 15 stood at 3,012.

Dr Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, said the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) and Nat­ional Institute of Health (NIH) had been monitoring the presence of different var­­iants of Covid-19 in the country and no new variant had entered the country as yet.

He said the national vaccination campaign had been speeded up and approximately one million vaccine doses had been administered in a single day so far throughout the country.

“A total 909,820 doses of vaccines were administered across the country on Sept 15. However, the total doses of vaccines administered to date stand at 71311567,” the NCOC said in a tweet.

According to data released by the NCOC on Friday morning, the country recorded 68 more Covid-19 deaths and 2,928 infections in a single day.

After the addition of 68 new deaths, the overall death toll has gone up to 27,072, whereas the number of total infections stood at 1,218,749 after the addition of 2,928 fresh cases.

Over the last 24 hours, a total of 57,626 tests were conducted throughout the country, with the positivity ratio recorded at 5.08 per cent. The number of patients in critical condition was 4,960.

The number of total patients recovered from the deadly disease stood at 1,125,942. As of Friday, the total number of active cases in the country was 65,725.

The number of active Covid-19 cases continued to decline as the country reported less than 70,000 such cases for the first time since July 31.

The new cases were outpaced by 13,716 recoveries over the last 24 hours, pulling down the active cases to 65,725.

The number of active cases has fallen consistently over the last four days. So far 1,125,952 patients have recovered since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

As many as 448,658 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 419,423 in Punjab, 170,391 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 103,720 in Islamabad, 32,707 in Balochistan, 33,628 in Azad Kashmir and 10,222 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 12,345 people have so far lost their lives to Covid-19 in Pun­jab, 7,224 in Sindh, 5,354 in KP, 895 in Islam­abad, 728 in Azad Kashmir, 344 in Balochistan and 182 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
