HARIPUR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman has directed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Haripur (UoH) Prof Anwarul Hasan Gilani to immediately halt the recruitment process in the university over the complaints of irregularities.

The governor, who is also the chancellor of public sector universities in the province, asked the VC to attend a meeting scheduled to be held on the matter at the Governor’s House, Peshawar, on Sept 9.

In a letter sent by the Governor’s Secretariat to the UoH VC on Sept 3, 2021, a copy of which is available with Dawn, the governor noted, “massive recruitment are being made in the UoH on the basis of illegally set criteria in the statutes violating procedures and without need assessment. You are required to immediately freeze the recruitment process being made under the relevant statutes until the entire process is reviewed.”

Asks principal secy to examine complaints about hiring process in Sept 9 meeting

He asked his principal secretary to chair the Sept 9 meeting and thoroughly review the UoH recruitment process for ‘future course of action’.

In the letter, the VC was asked to attend the meeting along with the registrar and records of the ongoing filling of different positions and those of appointments made during the last one year.

When contacted, VC Prof Gilani confirmed the governor’s orders for the suspension of the recruitment process.

He said the university recently advertised different teaching and administrative vacant posts and theshort-listing of candidates for them was currently under way.

The VC said the exercise was likely to be completed within a month’s time before the names of the shortlisted candidates were sent to the selection board for decision.

He claimed that the university’s administration had a ‘very clean record’ and had contested and so far won 24 court cases filed by individuals as it applied the single principle of transparency to all candidates.

“We will defend our decisions at all levelsas we are on the right track and followed the rules,” he said.

The VC said there might be some flawsin the statutes regarding administrative positions but they’re approved by the chancellor’s office and if those statues were changed by it, the university would act upon them.

“Our university will have no problem if statutes are revised by the chancellor,” he said.
