RAWALPINDI: Khan Abdul Qayyum Wali Khan, President of the Pakistan Muslim League (Qayyum group), has asked the Pakistan People’s Party to make its constitutional formula known to the people.

While addressing his party workers here today [Sept 5], he said, “Mr Bhutto has met the President many times and also claimed to have the majority in West Pakistan. Therefore, he should tell the people the constitutional provisions, which he wanted to be incorporated in the future constitution... .”

He said that … his party … has suggested to the President to frame a constitution providing for a strong centre, and also a rigid method for the amendment of the constitution. He said that his party has also made it clear that defence, foreign affairs, currency, taxation, external trade should be entrusted to the Centre. This, he added, was a must for the preservation of the territorial integrity and the economic viability of the country.

Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan said that his party would resist any move which would aim at the transfer of power through unconstitutional means. He further said that Government should not be intimidated by threats on the question of transfer of power. He said that his party has the firm conviction that transfer of power to the elected representatives … should take place in a peaceful manner. — News agencies
