Youth arrested for raping mentally challenged girl

SAHIWAL: Police arrested a youth who had allegedly been raping a mentally challenged girl in Bashir Town locality for the last three months.

According to Farid Town police, the widowed mother of the 16-year-old girl filed a complaint that a local youth had been raping her daughter who was mentally challenged.

On her complaint, Kot Khadim Ali Choki in-charge Waqas Ali traced the location of the suspect through GPS and arrested him.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed he had been raping the girl for the last three months, Waqas Ali said.

A rape case was registered against the suspect.

LAND RETRIEVED: The district administration retrieved a six-kanal piece of land belonging to a girls high school that was illegally occupied by an influential person at 55/5-L village near Qadirabad on Monday.

According to officials, the retrieved land was a part of the school playground, having a market value of around Rs6 million and was occupied by one Mushtaq for the last two decades.

The land grabber had set up a cattle pen there.

Sarmad Hussain, Assistant Commissioner, told the media that the village residents had lodged a formal complaint about the illegal occupation of the school land. He said after checking the land record the administration got it vacated.

The AC said that locals also joined the operation for retrieving the land. He said the administration would also ask the education CEO to provide funds for the rehabilitation of the school’s playground.
