LAHORE: The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has launched a “Rehnumai Markaz portal” to provide timely information to students for resolving their problems.

PHEC Chairman Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid on Tuesday held a meeting with Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar to present an annual report and to brief him about various projects. Principal Secretary to Governor Dr Rashid Mansoor was also present.

PHEC has established an online higher education portal “Rehnumai Markaz” for public and private sector universities of Punjab. Through the portal, PHEC will be able to collect data pertaining to students, faculty and programmes for better planning on higher education in Punjab.

PHEC will conduct online training to sensitise universities to the mechanism and functionality of the programme and representatives of both public and private universities can attend the training sessions.

The governor said funds were released to 10 universities for research in health, agriculture, education and other fields.During the briefing, PHEC Chairman Mr Khalid said 1,565 faculty members of universities and 3,544 teachers of colleges were given online training during the Covid-19 pandemic in a year.

He said the commission had provided funds to the University of Home Economics, Lahore, Government Sadiq College and Women University, Bahawalpur, for establishment of smart class rooms.

APPLICATION: Sacrificial animals worth Rs55 million have been sold for Eidul Azha since July last year through Bakar Mandi online app developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board in collaboration with the Punjab Cattle Market Management and Development Company.

With the raging pandemic demanding social distancing especially in crowded cattle markets during the Eid, online sale of sacrificial animals gained momentum across the province. Camels, goats and cows were successfully bought and sold through this digital platform.

More than 14,000 people were registered on the mobile app including 13,000 buyers and 1,000 cattle owners. Citizens were also able to browse details about animals such as the breed, weight etc through pictorial information.
