KARACHI, Oct 30: The protesting employees of the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, on Saturday vowed to continue their campaign till the board’s present chairmen was removed and senior in-service personnel were appointed on various higher posts, said sources in the board.

The employees had gone on protest on Oct 27, after they failed to get salaries from banks due to the poor account position.

After hectic efforts and pressure, the board managed to disburse salaries one day after the date especially fixed by the government keeping in view Eidul Fitr.

An official said employees were generally of the view that it was the ill-management of a huge amount available with the board.

At a time when the salary day was around, the chairman and secretary unnecessarily resorted to transferring a big amount to another commercial bank which was ill-advised, added the official.

The employees’ representatives claimed that the heavy amount shifted from the board’s appointed bank to other institutions not only delayed the delivery of salary to employees but also caused other losses to the board as well.

In the meantime, a number of students visiting the board for various academic purposes had to suffer as staff members were not available.

Literally, no working could be observed during the three days, while the preparation of results of intermediate classes and other works remained suspended on the third day as well, said the source.

The protesting employees gathered on the board’s premises and chanted slogans against the chairman and others for their alleged failure to run the affairs of the board befittingly.

“We had first been protesting for delay of salaries, but we will now continue agitation against the retired officials of the board, as they are failing to work in the board’s interest,” said a hostile official.

He said the board’s deserving employees were not being considered and people were being inducted from outside.

While confirming the strike and resentments, a senior official said efforts for reconciliation and negotiation were being made and it was likely that things would be sorted out by Monday.

On the other hand, employees said they would bring out a white paper as well.
