KARACHI: Second seed Mohammad Ali Asif beat both his opponents in the first and second round of men’s singles to advance in style in the inaugural Gatorade Trophy Ranking Tennis Championship which commenced here at Union Club hard courts on Sunday.

Mohammad Khalid Rehmani, vice-president of the Pak­istan Tennis Federation, inaugurated the championship.

Men’s singles (first round): Mohammad Ali Asif bt Mohammad Umair anwar 6-1, 6-2; Adnan Khan bt Saad Ahmed 6-0, 6-0

Men’s singles (second round): Mohammad Ali (second seed) bt Shahab Khan 6-3, 6-2.

U-17 singles (first round): Ayan Yousuf bt Kirtan Mukesh 6-2, 6-1

U-17 singles (second round): Mohammad Farooq Atiq bt Abdul Nafey 6-0, 6-0; Sameer Zaman (second seed) bt M. Shez 6-0, 6-1.

U-13 singles (first round): Abdullah Razzak bt Abdullah Hamadan 4-0, 4-0; Laraib Shamsi bt Wasil Ahmed (walkover); Eschelle Asif bt M. Shaheer 4-2, 4-0

U-11 singles (first round): Zayd Zaman bt Eizer Asif 4-1, 4-1; Laraib Shamsi (second seed) bt Mohammad Qasim 4-0, 4-1.
