ISLAMABAD: Excise department of the capital secured record collection of taxes during fiscal year 2021, Dawn has learnt.

During the previous fiscal year, the department collected Rs7.9 billion in taxes, despite the target being Rs5.8 billion. Director (Excise) Bilal Azam said that the department also collected a Rs3.2 billion tax for Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The total amount collected by the Excise Department is Rs11.2 billion, he added.

In 2017-2018, the department collected Rs6.2 billion, including Rs2.037 billion for FBR; Rs6.5 billion was collected including Rs2.071 billion for FBR in 2018-2019 and Rs8.6 billion, including Rs2.8 billion for FBR was collected in 2019-2020 as taxes, Mr Azam added.
